Where are you on your spiritual path?

Posted on Nov 23rd, 2008 by boogie : anarchist boogie
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 23, 2008:

i do not see my spirituality as a path, nor a journey.  i do not believe in this concept of spiritual heirarchy so prevalent in today's society.  i do not believe some are more "enlightened" or "evolved" spiritually than others.  i'm not buying it.  so what if that's what everyone else believes?  everyone else believes the good government is going to save them from the bad government, failing to recognize that this notion of salvation (whether it comes from church or state propaganda) is not an universal truth.

my spirituality is part of who i am.  there is no goal up ahead, no promise of reward, no threat of punishment.  there are no rules i must obey.  in my personal spirituality there is no path, no leaders, no followers.  there is no fear of getting it wrong because it just is!

I can feel the truth in your words, Stacy.  Always it returns to the what is (and that what is never leaves us anyway, but sometimes we forget….)

Hello Boggie, There you go in any direction without boundaries or worldly quides as if the the best thing to learn to teach others is what we can unlearn as students of it all.
Take care
Thanks

Congratulations Boogie!  Sounds like you have mastered acceptance and independence,  this freedom has truely set you free.  I am still plagued by my humaness and struggling to overcome societies conditioning.  For me, spiritual growth is an on going process of my evolution in understanding and the discovery of my true being.   I have found the saints, guides and  traditions that have come before as well as this community of awakend souls to be helpful pointers for this journey.  And thank God the goverment has nothing to do with our salvation… Blessings and Peace

Tom, why does anyone have to thank God or any other Spiritual Keepers of the universe that they are not reliant on the government for salvation? May sound good in some theories, yet many people are reliant on the government in times of employment, unemployment, natural disasters, protection of various sorts, etc. For far too many people are reliant on government entities for creating the only salvation they know during their time on this earth, as salvation is open to interpretation by each individual…

Tom, freedom does not exist so long as there is one human not allowed to make their own decisions for themselves.  Nomad, government creates a dependency upon itself, protection against the abuses its very own existence creates, while denying those same benefits and protections to those who need it the most, because they aren't part of the right group.

how lovely that you both came to comment here on my blog, thank you.
the subject is personal spirituality.  and yes, my political philosophy correlates, but is not what the question was asking.  the question asked about a spiritual “path” - my answer is that is not a notion to which i subscribe.  that is something our education would have us believe is true, it is an idea so pervasive that most people don't question it at all, never wonder why it is that they believe it, everybody else believes it, it must be true.  for me, spirituality is a personal relationship with the Divine, ever how you wanna look at that, whatever words you want to use to talk about it.  it's something personal, totally subjective, found only within.

i do not believe some people are better than others.  i do not believe that some humans are more “enlightened” or higher “evolved” than any others.  this, to me, is a lie.  a con.  a trick.  a very nasty lie that is used to control and manipulate (as lies always are).  i believe that everyone has the same ability to connect with that spirit within themselves, it's just that we have been taught to be afraid of doing just that.  we have been taught that we are sinners in need of salvation, that we are bad, that we are broken and need to be fixed.  i don't believe that is true.  we are ridiculed and harrassed to prevent us from believing in ourselves, in our own ability to find our own answers.  we are told to follow, we are taught to to love our abusers (respect “authority”).  we are fooled into giving our power away for the “good of the group” or the “greater good” - never realizing that the group only cares about the group, and not the individuals who make up the group.  and those individuals mean well, they really do, but they don't recognize that to form groups and fight amongst ourselves is exactly what supports the corrupt system that we are fighting against.

Hi Nomad,  I thank God because there is so much more than the earthly limitations that many of us get wrapped up in, with goverment being one of them.  My security or salvation rests in my faith that there is a God or universal power/energy/love that connects/binds us and transcends our temporary body and mind.

Boogie:  Thanks for your explanation which helps me to better understand your opening comments,  I agree we cannot be free as long as there are others who are not free, which emphasises our connectedness or oneness.  This also implies a responsibility to love each other, neighbors and enemies if we truely want everyone to be free.  I also agree that nobody is better than anyone else, however we all are at different levels of understanding which impacts our choices and ability to coexist with each other and within our community.  The salvation we need is from ourselves, with love and faith we have the ability to get past this and any dependency from others.

Agreed, both on the spirituality side and the “con”. I do believe there is something one could call a path but it is completely personal, subjective, and exists only in the sense one wishes greater understanding and love. It is absolutely cut and dried that no one is better than anyone else. Every viewpoint is relevant.
